Shannon grew up in the boroughs of Steel City in a slightly poor working-class family in the early 1960s. She was the middle child. Her father was a steel mill worker, and her mother was a waitress at a local greasy spoon. Her brothers were small-time criminals who worked as henchmen for the local crime bosses. Her family condoned their actions and saw nothing wrong with crime because it helped put food on the table. Shannon was abused by her parents (physically and emotionally). Shannon made a resolution that the only way she could get anywhere in life was if she took it herself. In high school, she realized she had enhanced abilities. She became a roller derby athlete as well as a cheerleader for the Steel City Steel Jax football team. Finding little success and even less money in those occupations, she joined the Steel City Police as one of the first female officers. She rose quickly through the ranks, becoming a detective. Because of her narcissistic personality, she is a very crooked cop, but her powers and abilities conceal her activities.
